Marcin Nice sunrise shot, but I'd be well disappointed if I got up at 5am and it was raining!
Brian Your story mad me smile. Good to see the commitment to the macro and look forward to your shots when you have better success, and with your new lens. If the walk is not too far why not try later in evening to see if you can see where the bugs are residing less close to the waters edge.

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
I agree with Markulous. The photo of 2 days ago is fantastic. The best one uptill now
I've bought 2 books of the pocket nature series. The butterfly book has all the info in it you need and is small and handy to take with you. The insects has all info in aswell. But it hasn't got the times in they are out. Butterflies has though. And if you look at amazon.co.uk you can get them for a couple of £'s. |

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Dutchie good choice with those books, however if you'll be addicted to macro like me you'll have to look for something more precise. there are thousands of moths and this book about batterflies and moths is not to precise about moths.
and some photo for today lunch time

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Markulous this shot was made this sunday. i have here already all kinds of damselflies. acutally 15 mins ago i came back from Fiddleford Mill area (Dorset) where i was finishing my batteries - they where almost flat but it was enough to take about 50 photos. and i was hunting only damselflies and one spider at the end.

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Think we're just too far north/cold to have got many - and not sure what we do get (recent move from South Wales). Only seen the Large Red - not even a single dragon!

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Interestingly the hair on the top of the thorax is blurred but the tips of the antenae are not and they appear higher than the thorax hair.
I only mention this because I frequently get this when the depth of field seems adequate. I think this must be due to those top hairs being blown by wind. |

Marcin, it will do me for now. By the time I'm a serious addict, I'm a few years further. (i'm a mum of 3 young kids, so busy enough you see

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
That remark about the thorax hairs may have sounded strange, I was looking at a Small Tortoise Shell about three pages back!
