Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
brian-iow that old macro shot is fantastic. and i'm serious. it's amazing that there was a time when people where using 2 megapixel cameras for photography, and i mean serious photography
. spider is good, just composition too narrow. you are getting close to that point in macro photography when you are good at finding subjects and sharpness on them and you really start thinking about that arthistic site of your photo. to that point when technique is there and you have time to think about what you are really doing. and you'll see - you are going to like it even more tjay82 welcome to pixalo . and before you'll say i'm good... well i'm not even close - take a look at this Photos by Igor Siwanowicz - photo.net . and about learning - i was startning like most people here, reading and watching how others are doing this. i was lucky to find nice macro community on polish forum. now i'm just trying to help others and of course i'm still learning. by the way - i'm going to update my tutorial. not today but soon.chrisa i hope i'll make that photo of my diffuser today - i'm at home and i remember .F11, exposure time 1/4000, ISO100, macro flashring ![]() F11, exposure time 1/4000, ISO100, macro flashring

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Marchin... you keep finding such interesting subjects. I adore the second photo for the antanne which seem to glow.
Just to say I may not be around too much in the next couple of weeks. I have a birthday tomorrow and will be away over the weekend. Next week we have visitors ,and finally the week after that we fly to Prague for a holiday. If I have a little spare time I will post a photo but rest assured I will keep my camera busy. Regards Brian. |

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Yes................yes i am having second thoughts about what lens to buy
. I always have this when deciding to invest. One thing's for certain there's no way i'm switching to Canon now (unless anyone wants to buy my second hand gear for market value?................thought not). As usual i'm being haunted by the lovely expensive Nikon model. Yes it's £415 or so, but this time next month i'll have that kinda money and with my birthday coming in July whats to lose, i can alway recoup my financial deficit then . Is the Nikkor really that much better? Is it even better? i'd love to treat myself to a bit of VR......................... . And it will autofocus woohooo. I know that not the point for macro but who says i have to keep it for macro use? Anyway, i think i'll do some more weighing up tomorrow. I always spend about 2 hours with a calculator in these situations. Maybe i should just cut lose and buy the muts nuts, as i keep restraining myself to cheaper alternatives. MiKE |

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
In order to answer that objectively, someone would have to own other macro lenses as well, in order to compare them, which is not that likely
Best bet is to read lots of reviews on all the ones you're interested in. Don't buy until you're sure which one you want. Keep reading reviews + weighing thoughts up in your head. Don't rush into anything, just take your time in making your decision. Then, if you're anything like me, it will suddenly become clear to you which lens it is that you really really want. THAT's the one to get

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
another 5am session behind me. my website is not working - but i'm working on it.
![]() ![]() ![]() just a quick example of what i was doing there today at 5am. more photos are coming ![]() F11, exposure time 1/7, ISO160, no flash, only natural light ![]() and as i promissed - photo of my new diffuser (only one part is new actually). i used empty milk can instead of handkerchief/tissues. as i remember from physics lessons when it's bend it's spreading light better and i have to admit it works .

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Yesterday was Good News /Bad News ...I went over the fields early yesterday morning, the good news was I had my Wellies, Camera.Macro Lens and Hat..... Bad News I forgot my tripod and my monopod, so these three pictures were all done handheld.
Also today I photographed my first dragonfly after chasing it for about five minutes. This is getting so addictive. f/5.6 Exp 1/125 ISO 200 Flash Auto f/4.5 Exp 1/125 ISO 400 Flash No f/5.6 Exp1/125 ISO 200 Flash Auto Last edited by brian-iow; 30-05-2008 at 12:39. |

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
tjay82 Welcome to pixalo
and hope to see some examples of your macro shots soon.Marcin Thanks for the picture of the diffuser. I think I'll give this a go in some form to see what results I can get, particularly on some ants. Like the recent shots of the butterfly esp #2 as brian said the attenae really jump out at you and yet another good damselfly! Brian For handheld and in the recent poor light those shots are quite good, slightly lacking in sharpness as would be expected. Seems your finding some interesting insects in the early morning, and I really love that droplet shot. |

Re: Macro-photography: example shots and general discussion
Hi Charlotte ..I have added the exif data to my photos. Hope this helps, as I do not have a great understanding of all settings, but I am learning.
Marchin... yes it is my birthday, today I have become an "OLD AGE PENSIONER". |
