Macro test shot

I took this shot to try out my new (at the time) Canon 100mm USM f2.8 macro lens. This shot convinced me at had both the sharpness and the colour saturation I wanted. I have never been disappointed with this lens, it is an absolute belter. Obviously being a prime lens it is sharp anyway but if the lens had a metal body I am certain it would be in the L series.

Anyway, all this blathering on is because I am scared someone is going to ask me what flower it was and I haven't got a clue! Hope you like it anyway.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Macro test shot

Nice one Rob.

I have been looking for a dedicated macro lens for sometime and the Canon 100mm is high on my list.

Hi Cotter,

Without a shadow of a doubt, i'd recommend the Canon 100mm f2.8 USM, the one I used here.

This lens is razor sharp and has gorgeous bokeh on it (not evident on this shot but others I have shown in my gallery do show this). At 100mm it is a good length for getting small nature shots without having to get so close you scare them away, There is of course the 150mm version but that is at least 3 times the price and I couldn't warrant that much being spent when this lens is optically so fantastic. Many people have reviewed this lens and said the only thing that stops this being an L series is the plastic lens body. If it were metal it would be L series as the optics are certainly equal in quality.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Macro test shot

No probs Cotter, tell her it'll be money well spe.... are, wait a minute. You're from Scotland aren't you? Hmmmm, when you say borders, are you north or south of the border? If north, I guess I can give you the name of a guy in Aberdeen who files down milg bottle bottoms and makes lenses out of them. They're not well corrected for chromatic aberation but they give even more surprise results than a Lensbaby

Right, I am off to hide from Fiona who will be gunning for me now.... along with all the other Scots friends on here <g> Actually the pastor of my church is also Scottish so PLEASE don't tell him.... I'd get excommunicated

Anyway, only really posting this because I was on 599 and wanted to go through the 600 postings mark :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Macro test shot

Wow Rob, I really like this one. The colour is really strong and the detail is very clear. The water droplets act like litle magnifying glasses. I can't get so close with my camera but one day i will get a macro lens.

Well done,

Dixie

Sooo....what flower is it then Rob!?

It is a stunningly crystal clear shot...and I'd hazard a guess it's a tulip petal?

LOL, a tulip is one of the few flowers I CAN recognise :o) No, this is some kind of daisy I think but not sure which. I'm sure glad you don't have to name a photo for it to look good

I love tulips.... very kissable!

Two lips!... oh forget it! Whoosh, over their heads it flew!

Cheers,
Rob
