Love #1. Sleeping chick and many ripples works very well.

Birds in #2 and #3 are sharp enough but perhaps the angle is whats up? Lower angle might make them more interesting.

Good balanced exposure on #4, the plenty of sharp detail in the plumage. Slightly too small an aperture maybe - the background is unnecessarily messy.

Re: More from Compstall

I think the first one works as an abstract. The others are just bird snapshots - really nothing remarkable about any of them. Its not easy making arresting shots of common waterfowl. Try different angles - lay down on a dock or the beach to get as close to water level as possible for a "bird's eye view." Shoot at dusk or against the sunset - shoot at dawn with mist or fog on the water - anything to set your shots apart from all the other folks who whip out their compact cam after their picnic lunch and shoot whatever moves. Most of all - have fun and think before you shoot.

Re: More from Compstall

Hi thanks for the comments, i do realise that these look like they were taken on a compact camera, most though were taken a 400mm. I enjoyed watching the Grebe family, must improve my shots.
