More Memories - Austin, Riley and Morris
![]() Two real cars. 1937 Austin 7 Ruby of my Uncle's and my father's Riley 9 Monaco 1938-9 on which i had my first driving lessons. Photo taken by me using my father's Zeiss Iconta 16 on 120 sadly thrown out with many other of his old cameras including a Zeiss 1/4 plate with film back that I first took pictures with and developed and printed aged about 7 in 1948. Had a super day down memory lane as old prints and some negatives have come to light so scanner on overtime. Following the Moggie I posted yesterday - Its replacement on the Morris line- up after the Minor 1000 ![]() Taken on a Practica SLR (new in 1964) with removable pentaprism and 2.8 (?Novar or Tessa) lens. Morris Mini Countryman 1965 - did 150,000 miles before I replaced it with a new Morris Oxford Estate "F" reg.

Re: More Memories - Austin, Riley and Morris
Wonderful! Well, the first two cars anyway!
![]() Some years ago I drove a Morris 8 - crash box, no brakes to speak of, etc - and was being followed down a steepish hill in the Dales by a friend in an Austin 7 - crash box, no brakes at all - and I remember looking in the mirror and seeing this expression of horror as they got ever closer and couldn't slow down. I had to speed up a bit, and luckily we reached the bottom of the hill before meeting too closely. Cars of that era are fantastic, provided the roads are as deserted as they were in that era.

Re: More Memories - Austin, Riley and Morris
Had a share as a student in a Morris 8 tourer - never did know how fast it was going with that strip speedometer moving like a drunken snake. We managed to fit eight blades (tucked into the front well and out over the back with the hood down from guys to the University boathouse at Barnes. Most of my days at Guys with Morris 8 series E ex GPO van, followed by a split windscreen Morris Minor GPO van that had been updated to a 1000cc engine.

Re: More Memories - Austin, Riley and Morris
And to think that certain people in another post have been drooling about that new BMW.
Sure it probably has good heating, is wind and waterproof and has brakes that work but it does not have the class that these do.
