Re: More (sigh) Chatsworth Horse Trials

How right was I

Good shots, although the background is quite visible in these, slightly distracting from the riders. Were you shooting wide open?

Re: More (sigh) Chatsworth Horse Trials

I agree with Jack here.Nice set of shots Tigress but too much background interest for me. Were you using a relatively short focal length lens or small aperture?
I usually take my 70-300 on shots like this and still end up cloning some of the people and dross out of the background!! It can be very difficult to get a good vantage point to take the shots without all of the commercial adverts being in the frame, thats usually why they choose their patch to get noticed.

Re: More (sigh) Chatsworth Horse Trials

It was some rubbish great big white lens, Brian (as seen here Does anyone know these reprobates) as opposed to the sensible solution: a small black 70-300mm!

Re: More (sigh) Chatsworth Horse Trials

Jack - I live and learn! My first horse trials, so am quite pleased with results, although I found the backgrounds very distracting too! I know where I went wrong and although I don't like chimping, maybe I should have listened to Mark more

Brian - I was using the 100-400 lens, but not paying enough attention! I haven't had it too long and not used anywhere near enough, but the weekend was a great learning curve for me - it's just trying to remember everything now .

Re: More (sigh) Chatsworth Horse Trials

You did a good job, the 100-400 is not a great lens for this sort of shooting

I don't think so, you had one of the best lenses for this sort of thing and it was i your bag most of the time (300F4L)
