Morning Walk
Landscapes and scenes drive me nuts because I seem unable to produce in an image that resembles what I see... but every so often I decide to have another bash!
Early morning - obviously not very recently given the howling gales and the driving rain, but a shot from a couple of weeks ago. It was taken early morning while walking the dogs, there was a slight frost on the ground, very low mist in places and the sun was rising. It was taken with the S5 IS - easier than the 20D when you've 3 hounds to keep your eye on as well! I was quite pleased with it and wondered what you thought? The ground is sloping, it's a sloping field. Having read lots about straightening things, I did wonder if I should level things out but then my trees were all wonky and it just looked odd so I put it back again. All comments of all shapes and sizes very welcome ![]() ![]() |

Re: Morning Walk
This is a nice shot and as you say the ground is wonky because that's just the way it is. I agree that sometimes we change these things to please the viewer who usually will be unfamiliar with the real scene but sometimes it best not to attempt to over-correct. Instead of going for totally horizontal, why not try some where in between that and what you have now? The 'leaning to the right' tree on the left would then become vertical while the trees on the right wouldn't look to bad.
![]() Other comments are that you have a lot of empty space on the left, while on the right you have two trees that dominate and also touch the outside of the frame. A little more free space here (if its a crop) or if not clone out the sole branch that is touching the side, would help balance the shot much more. Hope that helps ![]()

Re: Morning Walk
Must say, think that looks much better - I had exactly the same 'perceived skew' on s couple of my shots of the snow. Love that graduated colour of the sky

Re: Morning Walk
Yes, that's better and balances the shot more.

Very nice effect in your second shot there. Quite pleasing.
