My winter project
While our Northern hemisphere Pixalo colleagues start talking about the coming of spring and the first sign of birds, down south our thoughts turn towards winter. Winter for me means clear blue skies , off shore winds ,clean swell ( Twiggs you in the wrong spot boet ) and best of all Aloes!! The following shots were taken 20 minutes walk from my house. The plant in the foreground is Aloe arborescens, a cliff dwelling Aloe which will start flowering from May onwards. I want to go back this winter and catch it in flower so any help/comments on how to improve the shot will be greatly appreciated. Remember I am coming from a low base so any comments no matter how basic will be appreciated.
thanks Andrew |

Re: My winter project
Hi Sweet_sac, the place is Krantzkloof Nature Reserve. A small reserve outside Durban, South Africa. I have more photos but I am not happy with any of them. I am fortunate to live next to the reserve so I intend uploading more shortly.

Re: My winter project
If your principle subject will be the aloe flower than the composition ( & DOF) used in the first shot above would be good as it has the aloe in sharp focus but provides enough sharpness in the background to provide a sense of place without distracting from the plant.

Re: My winter project
Those are very interesting plants, but I think you are in danger of everyone wanting to see more of the waterfall instead!
It might be cool to do a few of the waterfall by itself too! |
