I was trying to find something interesting to do on New Years Day. I heard on the news that there was a polar bear dip. I thought that was strange because there are obviously no polar bears in southern Ontario! Apparently it is when a group of people run into Lake Ontario wearing only swim suits in the middle of winter! Anyway, it sounded like a photo opportunity and a nice walk, so I went along to see. Here are the photos.

We all know Canadians are nuts - Jules has been here ages!
Your 'swimmer' shots are a little over-exposed - looks like you've over-compensated for the snow a little too much. Try to re-do them a little darker, perhaps, but still retaining the skin tones and detail on the swimmers if you can. A couple of them also look a little 'soft' and might benefit from a sharpen here and there. The shot across the water towards the cityscape disappearing into low cloud is excellent and I love it to bits, as well as the rocks in the water, though the last looks a bit 'soft' also. A very good set there and some good reportage work.

Thanks for the advice. I am still learning about the correct exposure settings to use for snow.
I got a few of the aftermath, but nothing really that interesting. |

Those are great shots there Dave. Yes they do this every year here in Toronto Dave! Canadians are not crazy, we just take life by the balls and enjoy it! I love the expression on everyones face in the fifth shot. They all look in shock with their mouths wide open, lol. Not sure what their expecting though, lol. It's January for crying out loud!LOL That's one thing I don't wish to do thanks!
Dave, saying 'eh' is contagious. One can't help themselves, lol. jukles |
