Not a good day at the office

I was covering an indoor showjumping comp yesterday and the light was absolutely terrible, at times I had to bump the ISO to 1600 and even then I was only getting 1/60th @ f/2.8.

I tried panning but as horses, unlike cars, move on the vertical as well as the horizontal plane it meant I had to try and get the shot when they were at the highest point of their jump. Then it was to plan B and trying to go low and close with my 17-55mm and try and pan with that but again there just wasn't enough light.

I took plenty of shots and chimping got rid of many but when I got home and was processing them for my site I ended up binning about 40-50%. Not good.

Anyway, here is a small selection of the remaining shots...

wow the 4th picture is really good just like the ones we see in the magazine covers, you really captured the moment. great shot!

I know how u feel mate. Trying to get action shots in poor light can make for a long frustrating day!!!

#3 and #4 are my fav, nice crashes as well

The positive is that the 50% you didn't have to bin look like real winners!

I like number 4 because it portrays the relationship between horse and rider and I like number 6 for the action.

You coped well under demanding conditions! Like #6 - ironically the type of shot, with that movement, I was deliberately trying to capture when I went to horse trials last year (with some success - really should put 'em up sometime!)

You've done well really like 4 & 5. With number looks like horse and rider had different ideas about the jump!!
