Not much snow in the Lakes -56K Warning

Hi Folks

Just thought I would share a few pics from yesterday taken as I travelled around the Lake District. My mission was to get this months Grasmere Gingerbread stock, whilst taking pics of the snow and not freeze.

Pic 1 - The "dead" lake - Thirlmere

Pic 2 - fell next to Helvelyn, think its called White Side. - Not sure what the bird of prey is.- any ideas?

Pic 3 - On my way back through St Johns in the Vale

Pic 4 - Sheep at Mungrisdale

Pic 5 - More Sheep

Pic 6 - The road to Mosedale

As you can see - not much snow - YET.

Hope you like

Allan

Nice suite Allan - the BoP could be any number but looks superficially, at least like it could be a Peregrine Falcon ... but could not say for sure from here ! Might even be the good old Buzzard !

Mmmmm ... Gingerbread ! I love that stuff from Grasmere ... send some my way ?

TFS ... !

Hi Venomator

Have a feeling it might have been a buzzard. Here it is at 100%

Thanx Allan ... think the tails too long for a buzzard ? Seeing it larger it could be a Sparrowhawk especially with the wing shape, although the back colouring is more Kestrel !

Still hard to say ... sorry ! Thanx for trying though.

There are some Red Kite in that area, Not being very brainy in that field I will leave better judgment to others.

My wife was brought up in Grasmere so needs kept fed on gingerbread. Its more like a gingerbread flavoured biscuit than the soft cake you buy in shops - http://www.grasmeregingerbread.co.uk/

Wrong shape for buzzard, tail is too fine, Buzzards tail is very broad and flat and the whole bird is just more bulky.

A kestrel that doesnt have the right wing shape but i can assure you it is one

I spend all day long speeding through this area getting to all the local schools and hardly have time to take a picture. I must build more time into my diary to allow for pics.
