Orten Effect Done in Photoshop CS

There was a lot of talk about the Orten Effect, I came across an artical I read awhile ago which described it this way, here is an original picture of Mr. Chia Head.

You make a background copy in the layers pallette and add Gaussian Blur,,note you can always add more, I added 15 on blur setting twice to the layer. I just reselected the Gaussian Blur under filter. It should look like this.

Now with only 2 layers in the layers pallette, I switch the background copy/blur to Multiply Mode at the top of the layers palette. It should look like this.

Now you can use a layers adjustment curves to lighten. You can also select the background copy at this point and run the blur filter again and watch the effect get stronger until you like it. Hope this helps, I never knew it was called the Orten Effect, it was always the glow effect to me.
