Ortonesque?
Took this shot a couple of years ago to take advantage of a side effect of the Sigma RAW conversion software - essentially using the -ve effect of one of the controls. Looks a little like an Orton'd up image! It was a camelia which was in the sun, so stood out from the BG. What d'you reckon?

I really like this one, the black background really makes it standout.

I like this one, looks like it was taken in a tropical jungle.I agree with Fiona, white is very difficult with flowers, great shot!!

Re: Ortonesque?
For anyone having difficulty getting white flowers to expose correctly without getting blown highlights, here's a simple tip
1. Set your camera to spot meter 2. Take a reading from the whitest part of the flower 3. Dial in +2 EV of exposure compensation* 4. Bingo - your flower should be perfectly exposed *If you're shooting manually, just dial in the appropriate changes i.e. if the meter reads 1/2000 sec at f/8, change to 1/500 sec and so on. Same goes for shooting snowy scenes or any other brightly lit subject. |

Re: Ortonesque?
Lovely, is not a word I often use but it seems particularly fitting here. Well done.

Thanks for the simple tip,,,I still have problems learning this, 4 years now, I think photoshop has messed up my understanding, learned PS before real photography. It's just some times I expose the opposite way and get great effect. Like for marks picture I would have clicked a notch -.167 on my camera,,only a little and it will look good. The spot mode, must practice spot mode,,,Thanks for the memories Mark, it's always fun to see that some people can take pictures and give us hope..
