over saturated reds b&w

I'm not sure if its the Sony a100 or if its common in most dslr but very red flowers are over saturated in my raw shots. I was going to delete this one but tried a conversion and worked on the channel mixer to try and learn more about this fascinating field. any c&c welcome

Re: over saturated reds b&w

Not had any problems with red over-saturation on my Canon cameras.

It's ironic that you decided to go for a mono conversion as black & white film is almost totally insensitive to red light. That should fix your saturation problem.

Re: over saturated reds b&w

Not sure why you were going to delete the shot - just tweak the saturation downwards.

Do find that flower reds do pose slightly more of a challenge as it's so easy to clip the reds and sRGB is somewhat restricted in colour gamut leading to poorer detail in the web version

Yes, reds tend to clip more easily, I've had that problem, although haven't shot anything properly red on the D300 yet...
I like the deepness of the tone, it looks sort of unreal.

Re: over saturated reds b&w

I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag,,,I bought an "Expodisc" last year when I started IR photography so I could maintain a consistent white balance. I now use it all the time for everything,,,I know I know . but that being said my reds look better,

Re: over saturated reds b&w

thanks for all comments, food for thought.
I have a bit of reading to understand how channel mixer works, does strange things ie red channel at 100% flower is totally white
