Re: Panorama?

Way way way too dark - its very difficult to see any of the details of the photo.

Re: Panorama?

Well if you're going for a silhouette either do so 100% or don't. I can see detail in this. Am I supposed to? Am I meant to ignore it and concentrate on shapes? If so which shapes?

Your other pic is fine - this doesn't work imo.

Re: Panorama?

Have to agree withe Malcolm here (well, maybe only two "way"s ) I hadn't a clue what was in the foreground until I upped the brightness! The comp and exposure's good so it's just a bit of tweaking needed. 'Tis a rubbish monitor I'm using, so apologies, but something more like:

Shadows/Highlights (which I never like using!), tweaked the saturation (darken blues/cyan)

Edit: On the silhouette front: it's one to be careful with. If you have too much you just get a heavy lump of black overpowering the shot

Re: Panorama?

It was supposed to be a picture of the sunset with a little foreground context included. Plus to me it was fairly clear they were umbrellas....

Re: Panorama?

I wouldn't take to hard Jack, much of these differences are due to monitor calibration and so opinions on how much foreground can be seen and how it affects the image are VERY subjective.

Who's to say that the second shot doesn't look to one person on their monitor like the first shot looks to you on yours. Yes monitor calibration (or lack of it) really can make that much difference

But don't forget you were there, so knowing what was in the scene will allow you to interpret the shapes in the correct way.

In your first post I thought that there were people stading at the water's edge, especially on the RHS. That may well be due to my monitor, but it is, as has been said, it's one of the problems we have in sharing photos on the net, and we only see the image without the other information needed for the correct interpretation.

Re: Panorama?

Well, it's too dark ... but I think someone already said that

I realise you meant it as a moody shot, but the problem with it being so dark Jack is that it makes it hard work for the viewer to appreciate the image. As Dabs points out, you were there, we weren't, we can only see what you show us in your image, and if we're straining to see what's there, some of us will give up + stop looking. 'Nuff said

I love the composition, which to me is the whole strength of this image, the shapes are all in the right places to make for a very pleasing image indeed. Gorgeous colours in the sky as well.

Please have a go at lifting it + re-post? It really is a lovely shot, + would be a shame not to do so IMHO
