Re: Paps Of Jura
Now that is somewhere I'd really like to visit. We go to the Isle of Mull and the west coast at least once a year, but getting to Islay is a real pain and we've never done it.
Thanks for the taster! ![]() |

Kennacraig ferry terminal is a wee bit awkward to get to.If you drive, instead of going via Inverary and Loch Fyne you can get a ferry from Ardrossan, on the Clyde coast, to Brodick on Arran then drive the short distance to Lochranza and catch another ferry to Claonaig, which is just south of Tarbert, which in turn is only a few miles from Kennacraig. Coming up from England, the expense of these 2 ferries may be offset by the reduced driving distance?.If you dont drive there is a bus service from Glasgow to Tarbert and I would imagine a local bus connecting to Kennacraig timed for the ferries.A nice island but not as 'rugged' as Mull.Or Arran, which is actually worth a holiday visit in its own right!! .

Re: Paps Of Jura
Thanks John.
We spent a week on Arran a few years ago (got bitten to death!) and I had thought of using it as a stepping stone to Kintyre and Islay, but I think Calmac's charges would be a bit steep!Actually the main reason for wanting to go to Islay is Laphroaig, Bowmore, Lagavulin, Ardbeg.... ![]() |

Re: Paps Of Jura
It's clearly a lovely place, I spent a fortnight with a friend on the Isle of Eigg but that was a couple of decades ago now. Wonderful place, so peaceful and relaxing.
Anyway, back to the photo, for me there is one thing that is a problem: the fluffy cloud that is almost as bright as the lighthouse and draws the eye to itself too much, especially as it is right in the centre of the sky. If that could be darkened so that the main focus goes to the lighthouse and then the eye explores around seeing the lovely scene as a whole, it would be a great shot. It isn't a bad shot by any means, nicely composed and a lovely feel, just that one little issue that maybe could be looked at and solved. Cheers, Rob
