Penarth Pier

So I made the supreme effort this morning to get, 1/2 mile down the road!

Penarth Pier - Lights On
Semi-corrected the perspective on this (taken with 16mm Zenitar)

Penarth Pier - In The Mud
Tide was out, so went for the sort-of reflections off the mud!

Penarth Pier - Seaweed and Snail
Not sure this really works - too much black? Indeterminate subject?

Comments - good, bad, indifferent - always welcomed!

Re: Penarth Pier

i like them all Mark.... the first one if very nice, I would perhaps like to see a little more space on the RHS.........

the last one however is my favourite and no i dont think it is either too much black OR an indeterminate subject....... its seaweed and a silhouette which both work fabulously!

great work as always

Re: Penarth Pier

first one i feel there is to much interest on left and right of pic and i dont know which to follow if you know what i mean , prob would like to either focus on line of lights etc on left , but as you obviously going for the whole thing , i just feel i dont have a focal point ,but suppose that is also a good thing as it holds my interest as i am looking everywhere .
second one i actually like the mud effect and the way it leads me to pier
third ...sorry does nothing and i agree with you that to me its way to dark and the snail and seaweed just doesnt compliment each other , i would of liked prob just seaweed and not as dark ,which to me just makes me feel like iam straining to see it .
I would imagine it would be a pretty specy place with sunrise / sunset over pier
hope not to in depth for this forum.

The first two don't do much for me Mark but I do like that third one. Yes it's a bit dark but it's almost silhouette and it works.

Great light on them all and I love the first. Definitely worth the effort getting up early.

Re: Penarth Pier

Fab detail in these, Mark

#1 Love the composition, not so keen on the bright blue of the bulding nor the fake-looking blue in the sky at top LH corner.

#2 Love it!

#3 I like it, although it's a bit dark. Love the dappled mauve colouring in the seaweed. I find the blurred BG on the RHS distracting. Still looking for the snail ...

Overall, a great set, using superb creative techniques

Re: Penarth Pier

Many thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated!

Yeah, agree that more space on RHS would've been good, Fiona. Need a wider angle lens!

Interesting re. the 3rd. You either like it or hate it!
Snail is smack in the middle - tho' could be just a pebble!

Re: Penarth Pier

Hi Markulous,

I know the area you mean as I was brought up in Barry, only a few miles down the coast from where you are, and still visit regularly.

I think the second picture is my favourite. The colours and composition work the best, although the first one is still a good image as it does have an initial bit of wow factor. Unfortunately, I'm not keen on the third one as it is too indistinct (in my opinion) as to what the subject is.

Nice one though. I hope you had an ice cream on the pier for your efforts!

Lucy

So unreasonable, no one there at 7:00 in the morning! And it's Thayer's too!
