Re: people shots

Fiona, is this the same person who was worried about whether she could handle a photo shoot?!!! You do well at getting the right shot and that is all down to having the most difficult thing to learn in photography: timing! We all know the importance of carefully setting up the shot, getting the composition right and the technical side right but with people shots it is all down to the split second you press that button. In your case, you are getting that right so well done.

2nd photo looks a bit red, maybe needs that desaturating slightly or the colour balance adjusting. The first is a lovely shot, just one small point to watch: lower the camera slightly. The camera position is about the level of her eyes or even just above. That works fine in a head and shoulders portrait but not so well in a full-length shot. It causes all sorts of problems with flash if you have to utilise that because the distance from camera to eyes might be half the distance from camera to the feet... with the ensuing darkness caused by our friend the inverse square law of diminishing luminance.... which I know you are well-acquainted with now :o)

3rd picture I love, a cheeky grin that captures the character of the girl well.

4th picture, love the idea, perhaps a tad too soft but works. Watch out for hair obscuring an eye. In this case it has put the left eye into shadow so we are only connecting with one eye.

5th one we've talked about before so I'll let others make comments there.

Great work as always lss, keep it up :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Wow, can I borrow her dress the next time I go to a party? It's gorgeous!

I like these pictures, the different faces are really pleasant, especially the impish look on the little girl. i like that a lot.
