Portobello Beach

Been using the "layer-new layer from copy-overlay" trick on my small jpegs and have to say that used carefully adds a definte 'zing' to a photo.Another great Photoshop tip learned from Pixalo members.I must pause and master the ones I am trying now before attempting any new ones.
This shot was pleasant enough for what it is but the layer trick added that wee bit oomph

Mastering the new techniques is not so hard. Remembering what they were a few weeks later is another thing all together.

This is a useful technique. The picture certainly has some oomph.

I am not so keen on the large area of featureless sky. Much of that could be cropped out. The forground is also a bit dark. Perhaps some selective exposure increase there would help. Otherwise - good job

Re: Portobello Beach

I think there's a lovely letterbox panorama type shot in here which is getting lost in the expanse of plain sky and the dark foreground, neither of which add anything to the picture. Take them away and you get a very pleasant picture of the scene you were presented with

See what you think. Cheers,
Rob

Re: Portobello Beach

I like the crop. The sky in the original doesn't allow the buildings or shore to have the impact that they should. I like the way the shore horseshoes through the image.

Re: Portobello Beach

Sorry for delay in replying but thats me just back from work.
Rob,the crop.Yes,I agree on the sky but too much off the base for me and I also 'need' the right hand side back to complete the 'sweep' of the bay. It just 'feels' too tight.
Fiona and _MB_ ,it was taken from the grassy area just beyong the Public Loo/Water Board building at the Joppa end.I had been down taking some pics at Fisherrow and walked back and thought this was worth a shot or two.
Cheers
John.

I 're-visited' this one,had a play and came up with a Duotone version to try to give it that 50's look.

Re: Portobello Beach

I really like the letterbox version, the only thing is I do find the pole on the nearest breakwater a little distracting. A photoshop job maybe?
A very nice wide angle photo though.
