Re: Portree - Isle of Skye

lovely shot John. I really like the mountains in the background and the colours on the boat. maybe a wee touch more saturation?

I wouldn't mind hearing the story behind the camera as well!!

Thanks for your comments Steve. Now you mention it I know your right about the saturation. Yes I was on holiday in Norfolk around May of this year and by accident I left my camera at my daughter's house. Due to a snapped tendon I didn't feel able to collect it so I waited for her to visit me. Meanwhile, I made do with my Canon Powershot A640.

Re: Portree - Isle of Skye

Yes, agreed on the sats. I love the composition and the scene, it's really balanced and holds together nicely.

One very minor thing that you might like to consider and I know this might sound picky but if you try it I think you'll be surprised what a difference it makes...

The post sticking up on the left in the middle, it goes up and stops at exactly the shore line. That is forming a complete square and closing off the view beyond. If you clone a tiny part of the water line across just the top 3mm of the post, it will open it up and make a sur[rising amount of difference.

I'm at work now but if I remember at home, I'll give it a quick go to show you what I mean if you are happy with that.

Cheers,
Rob

Nice shot its meant to be a really nice place from what i here, on a good clear day we can see Skye in the distance from our coast, its triangular shape which makes it stand out from the rest.

Yes Rob, I do see what you mean. I have done it and it has made a big difference. Thanks for your suggestion, I wish I had read it before making an A3 for the wall. I'll have to make another print and I will put the saturation right whilst I am about it. I won't do it right away in case there are any more suggestions.
