Prime Country
Weekend before last I was up in the Peak District and, amongst other things, was testing Rob Barron's 300mm IS F4 L with a view to purchase. I do like a good prime for testing the old compositions, seeing as often it's impossible to move forward or backward!
Mouldy Leaves ![]() Canon 350D, Canon 300mm F4 L, 1.6 secs, F16, ISO100, Tripod Plantain OK, it's a common enough plant but I liked it's shape and the fact that it's clinging onto a tiny crevice in the rock ![]() Canon 350D, Canon 300mm F4 L, 1/160, F8, ISO100, Handheld Ducks' Delight Again a common enough subject but I liked the weed and light ![]() Canon 350D, Canon 300mm F4 L, 1/100, F11, ISO100, Handheld Duck Pond An old fish pond (there's a series of them, now sadly neglected...... and most empty) ![]() Canon 350D, Canon EF-S 17-85mm EF @38mm IS, 1/80, F11, ISO100, Handheld Sloped Beech Loved the light filtering through the beech tree - and the way the tree appears to lean over, almost threateningly (which it does but the effect is magnified by the steep slope) ![]() Canon 350D, Sigma 10-20mm @10mm, 1/30, F11, ISO100, Handheld Any comments, good, bad or indifferent - all welcome!

Re: Prime Country
Yeah, turned in some pretty good shots! Rob's got the 100-400mm and so never used it. Between two of us we now have 100-400mm and 300mm, so keeping max flexibility (I also love the challenge that prime lenses pose - keeps me on my toes!)
First two of http://www.pixalo.com/community/phot...ght-19356.html were taken with the 300mm as well |

Re: Prime Country
Looks like the 300mm will be in your bag for keeps then

Re: Prime Country
I love the gentleness of No. 1.
Would the last have been a candidate for HDR? |

Re: Prime Country
Seeing as I'm a terrible one for "just in case", so load everything into my backpack, I'd say 'yes'!

Hmmm, not a great believer in the supposed virtues of HDR but may have a play. Thanks for the suggestion! |

Re: Prime Country
All good, looks like the lens has found it's new home!
![]() 1st (well it had to be given my current fungi fascination!) and the last (one of my favourite trees, the beech) for me. Last edited by Ali; 15-11-2007 at 20:26. Reason: Spelling - again! |

Re: Prime Country
Darn it, if I'd known it was that good I'd have kept it
![]() Just kidding, I always knew it was a cracking lens and I am delighted it has gone to someone I know will use it to its best potential. I just wasn't getting use out of it and the money was better being allocated to my new PC ![]() Some lovely shots here Mark, the first is my favourite but they are all crisp and sharp and I have a feeling we'll be seeing plenty more from your excursions with this one in the backpack ![]() Cheers, Rob
