thanks lads,

i got some real funny looks while taking the pix, lol, i could have taken hundreds, and recomend anyone to take their camera to a garden centre , i used the above mentioned camera, set on the finest quality ( 3.2 meg fine ) and in macro mode, no flash , just a bright morning, just before it chucked it down, lol , they have been cropped in PS and slightly boosted with brightness and contrast and an added border.

some of the petals have been ' repaired ' with the aid of the clone tool and the healing brush

I know you where using a point and shoot but for what’s its worth the shots you have shown here have all been captured from almost directly above, this works ok on the first shot but gets a little boring after viewing a few Even with a point and shoot being a little creative with different angles would have made these shots more interesting. On the plus side though they are nicely exposed and well focused.

i suppose boring is in the individuals perspective, and two of the three shots above were taken level with the plants, and not from above , i will limit it to one pic in future so as not to bore the viewer ,

i took them more as a study of individual flowers and foliage , and as such i think the full on shot is what is required, and who wants to see gravel paths, punters and fences in the shot ?

glad u like the exposure and focusing tho

Don't shoot me for having an opinion, I actually like each shot individually but collectively although they are of different flowers they are too similar to hold my PERSONAL attention. This doesn't make any of them bad pictures

If you took than as a study exercise then that is completely different. I recently had a conversation with Matt about some bird (feathered type) pictures that I had taken and the ones I liked where different to the ones that Matt said the magazines and stock photo libaries would be interested in, mine where from "interesting angles" and the others where from the side showing a full profile and thus making it easy to recognise the subjects. I suppose this relates well to this above full on flowers.

On the subject of gravel paths, fences and punters, you can keep the paths and fences but show us the pics of punters if they are of the female type and pretty

I took the camera to a garden centre recently and in the Reptile House, was told very politely by an assistant that photography wasn't allowed, even though I stressed I wasn't using flash. I asked to speak to a supervisor, from whom I got the same response, plus I was informed there was a blanket policy of no photographs allowed. My usual charm was of no assistance whatsoever, even when I asked if I could just take some shots of flowers.
