Re: Quick Snapshot Of Friends Daughter
I love the original Stevie, but I can't make up my mind about the edited version. I think I like it but I suspect it's one of those that would look stunning blown up....it's a bit jarring on the eye in a small size.

Re: Quick Snapshot Of Friends Daughter
I like the mono Stevie, but with one provisor - there is quite an expanse of white forehead with no relief in it. The closer crop is certainly better

Re: Quick Snapshot Of Friends Daughter
We must always think 'What would the client think?' when taking paid photos and I think that is worthwhile here even though it is not as such. This is a teenaged girl and wants to look good, of course, in any picture. I am certain that she would absolutely love the mono treatment you have given her as it softens her and makes her look more mature while still retaining the fact she is a girl and not a woman. It's a lovely reworking given the limitations of the original. The problem with the first is mainly the lighting which has caused some strong shadows, The forehead does have all the detail there so I think in the mono this could be dumbed down slightly to avoid it being such a hotspot. She has beautiful eyes and we don't want any other area to draw the viewers attention away from them.
For me, the strongest shadow problem is the dark line underlining the nose. This dark line is making her nose look larger than it is: not something most girls will appreciate! There was a strong shadow under her chin but the tight crop has alleviated that. I think you've brought out her strong points really nicely, softened her face and given her an image she will surely be delighted with. Please tell us what she thinks when she sees it as I am sure she's going to love it :o) Cheers, Rob

Re: Quick Snapshot Of Friends Daughter
this is really nice but i honestly cant say which version i like the most. i would probably go for the original as the edited in my eyes makes her face look more round...which to a teenage girl is not what they want to see... just my opinion for whats its worth!

Re: Quick Snapshot Of Friends Daughter
The edited one is also the better one for me, but for different reasons. It appears to me that you probably took this with a short lens, therefore enlarging things that are closer to the camera, in this case, her hand and perhaps her nose. It just appears unattractive to me, and maybe that is the reason.
Also, I don't know if her hair is really short or if the top is just hidden in the shadow. If the latter, then it would make a much better image with better balance to include all of her hair. In the mono, though, I don't like her very highlighted forhead. Makes it much too important. The removal of some freckles is good, but then again, it isn't her any more. I would really be interested in what she thinks of the images. The model is always the most severe critic. skip |
