Rangefinder scans.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Agfa Karat 36 Rangefinder. I ran a film through since I didn't know what to expect and....it's the first roll of film I've ever shot. These are obviously scanned. Thanks for looking.

Re: Rangefinder scans.

The car has obviously come out of this one better Stephen, but it is the more simple image.

These photos have gone through three development stages - so any issues will get multiplied. The flowers are obviously blown, but was this at the scanning stage, or before?

How did you find using the film camera and having no idea of how your images would look at the time of taking the shots?

Re: Rangefinder scans.

You are right about multiplying the issues and yes the car has come out best - that print and scan is pretty much the same as the car. The blown highlights in the flowers were in the print.

It is a totally new ball game this. It is a totally manual camera - both physically (no electronics) and photographically (manual only). Although I have a good command of shooting manual on a digital I had not idea how these shots would come out and there were some c**p ones. Adjusting aperture and exposure time is via rotating levers and dials on the lens (a Solinar F2.850mm).

It is a weird sensation taking shots and having to wait until you have used a roll but it's all good fun and a definite learning experience.

Think this is the first time I've ever seen this comment made! Also makes me want to dig out my film SLR and chuck a film through it!

OK the first is blown, but the Jag looks good (if you can ever say that about a Jag! LOL!)

Re: Rangefinder scans.

I could never ever in a million years go back to film. I took way too few images in film because 1) it was expensive and 2) there was not instant gratification.

Although there are many digital photographers who started with film and made the transition, there are probably many more like me for whom digital imaging made the whole process so much fun and so much easier that we just had to get into it.

That's true, Skip but in my case I'm not going back to film - I've never been there in the first place. Those who have shot film have that knowledge and experience to fall back on even if you would never use film again. I just simply want to have the experience of film and with regard the expense, believe me I will be selective

Re: Rangefinder scans.

I, too, am experimenting with film just to have that increased understanding with fstops and aperture and all that.

I have a Nikon FG Film to play with, but my real camera is a D70.
