Lovely colours Doddy as you say. The first one is almost an abstract and would be better if the colours in the top half extended all the way down the frame - the bottom bit is a bit bland.

The second shot is the one I prefer. Incredible how it's almost just a mirror reflection in the still water apart from the slightly wavy lines. The splash of yellow really works here to.

#1 for me. Ok it's a bit abstract but the colours are superb and the ripples are spot on. Where I live it's nothing but browns, greys and greens

regards

Two excellent shots Dod - have you considered flipping the second through 180 degs to add to the illusion ?

I love No. 1.
The colours are fantastic and the image is mesmerizing.
I could stare into that for hours.

No. 2 makes me feel a bit sick.
Strange for a guy that spent years as a navigator in the Merchant Navy.

Anyway, nice shots Dod.

I really like these type of shots and especially your first one - very fluid. Good colours on both so nicely captured

[I tried recently something like this for a blog shot]

I love the top one, and I am wondering if it could look good cropped, so the colours fill the picture

like both of them, although i like the 180 on the second, as the judges in my photography club says, 'your eyes travel from left to right' so it works well for me.

I like the first one, its just abstract enough for me. I think that because the ripples in the water are at an angle though it slightly distracts, I would have levelled the shot to match those lines.

The second one is a nice idea but as its much more obvious what it is it doesn't have the same appeal for me.

Interesting idea though

So that wouldn't work for an Arabic-speaker then, or Japanese or Chinese?

We only 'read' images from left to right because we read our languages that way.

An image should be free of such constraints.

MY photography tutor used to turn our prints upside-down. If they still 'scanned' ok that way up, he judged the overall composition a success and then went on the tear the rest of your technique apart...
