It's a sign that says 'US Army checkpoint'! Beyond that it does little for me!

Oh, and if that's Checkpoint Charlie' I went through it in Cold War days (no, I wasn't a refugee - visiting East Berlin!)

And yes it is, perhaps I should have given some background. Just thought it had a little atmosphere. Also, considering it's 2007, it looks remarkably similar to the 40's...

As you say, it needs something else to 'set the scene' or 'continue the story'. On it's own it just becomes an isolated sign which, although it does have certain resonances, is not enough. Even part of the checkpoint, showing that it's part of that era, would be sufficient

Nah, the contrast of old and new! Kind of irony - leaving the American sector but it then becomes obvious that it's all the same
