Rievaulx
This picture of Rievaulx Abbey was taken on a recent visit to N. Yorkshire when I went to photograph Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey. The latter was founded in 1132.
PS On viewing this image it looks washed out. My original picture is much more saturated. Will someone kindly explain what is happening. Thank you. John. ![]() |

Re: Rievaulx
Terrific shot, John
To my slightly colour blind eyes the colours do look look a bit odd, bright, vivid and a little washed-out. It has the feel of a watercolour. Maybe this is a colour space issue, but whatever - the image certainly works for me. |

Re: Rievaulx
Thanks Dabhand, I didn't think about that. I have been using RGB1998, maybe I should have conveted to sRGB before putting it on the web.
No I've tried but can't find a way to convert to sRGB.! John Last edited by John F : 13-08-2007 at 17:03. |

Re: Rievaulx
I always use Adobe 1998 too - and most of the time I forget to convert before posting.
In PS there is an option to select a colour space in the file menu. I'm sure that other apps must have a similar facility. Still a cracking image though. |

Re: Rievaulx
doesnt save for web automatically assign sRGB?
This a shot with the TS lens? It looks almost too straight and makes me feel a bit unsteady looking at it. A small shrinking with perspective may be in order - unless you don't get the same odd feeling looking at the verticals in which case ignore me. It's a wonderful image and despite it being an accident I really think the pale appearance makes it stand out from the usual British ruins photo. Good stuff. Now find out how to do it on purpose! |

Re: Rievaulx
It does look a wee bit 'odd' but it grows on you. However,I really would love to see the 'normal',saturated version as I feel it would be 'tasty'.Oh,and a Monochrome version for Fiona!!

Re: Rievaulx
I float between correcting verticals and leaving them converging with my Sigma 10-20. I think that CV's add drama to a shot, and give a kind of surreal quality.
When the CV's are corrected to be straight I often think it makes the image look (depending on the subject) artificial, so I guess I'm in the camp of leaving some CV in to retain some perspective. Charlotte also thinks that in the shots where I have corrected CV's, the image looks flat -that is no depth - not poor contrast. |

Re: Rievaulx
Hmm, it looks like the Levels have changed - wouldn't expect the change from Adobe to sRGB to lighten ('normally' darkens). And pic here is sRGB (as Malcolm suggest, Save for Web will automatically convert - it's how I see I forgot as the image darkens)
