Set of moody monos after a storm
All these pics were taken a few months ago when we had some severe storms and mass flooding in Dorset. I went for mono for two reasons: this is not really my genre and I promised myself this year I would move out of my comfort zone, and they fit the subject quite well.
The first picture is of a lake that isn't there! A massive area was completely underwater. To give you some idea of the extent of the flooding, even the nearest river (more of a stream really) is over a mile away from this point! In this next one I just thought the lone tree so stark and alone made a strong image. See what you think: The last one was a bit of an experiment but I feel it has enough to work. Your opinions are most welcome ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
Rob, I really like the first one. A lot. It has a very balanced composition, a good range of tones, a lovely reflection, and excellent detail all the way through. It is one I can sit + look at for a long time + just keep on admiring it
A lovely image, well done. The other two don't do much for me I'm afraid, just too dark for my taste. But that just me ![]() |

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
like all of them but then i would as they are good conversions............# 2 has to be my favourite, however i do have a wee bit of a problem............. I know you well enough to know that there is no way you would post a pic with a wonky horizon ( or would you ) so WHY do my eyes keep telling the brain that the horizon is running off to the right?

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
Nice set Rob - #1 for me. I also noticed the apparent tilt, but could not work out if it was an illusion.
BTW - Brian? ![]() |

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
I'l have to agree with the others.
#1 certainly has a quality above the others, blowed if I can say what though! |

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
Rob I like them all, 1 is great, just a bit of haloing in the tree branches in the distance I think....
2 could have been the best, but I feel it needed a really low angle, and maybe closer up, so that the bottom of the tree wasn't lost in the dark foreground. With 3, are those light rays real? I've seen Les do this before.... ![]() |

Re: Set of moody monos after a storm
Whoops, you got me Fi, sorry! Yes there is a slight tilt I THINK in no 2. I am not certain as the trees are straight and remember the water there is not even a lake, it is rain water that has caused flooding so it can look a bit strange with the lay of the land. But I do think it might still be a touch crooked.
Oh well, c'est la vie and all that <g> Must say I like No 1 best as well, I put the other two in to make a little set really rather than anything else but glad people like different ones in different ways. Maybe I'll give this mono lark another look sometime ![]() Cheers all, Rob |
