Shoot everything - it pays off eventually!
So, back in August I was looking at the list of photocalls that were scheduled for the Film Festival in Edinburgh. There were the obvious A-list events and a brace of "lesser known" talent in attendance as well.
One of the photocalls was for an obscure French horror film called The Serpent. The attendees were the director, the author of the original novel on which the film was based, and one of the principal actresses. I trotted along and got set up, not expecting much from the shoot and - true to form - I didn't make any sales from that photocall... until yesterday. Asides from the festivals own photographers, only two other local shooters turned up. I knew both of the other chaps and they more or less shoot for their own Edinburgh-centric website and never sell images to the press. Go figure. Anyways, it turns out that the "lesser known" Ukranian actress, Olga Kurylenko, was cast as the latest 'Bond Girl' for 007's next outing which started filming just two days ago. I've had more sales of my shots of Ms. Kurylenko in one day than I usually have in an entire month! I must say that Ms. Kurylenko certainly has what it takes to be a 'Bond Girl' - she was charming and captivating during the shoot, although the fact that she only spoke French or Russian made directing her a little tricky ![]()

Good advice too cos you never know who will be the next big thing! Its a really striking, simple portrait as well. Were you covering the festival freelance? I am hoping to get out and about this year but IIRC the media accreditation for the festival this year isn't open yet. |

Photo accreditations for the 62nd EIFF will take place in April - just head on over to Press - Edinburgh International Film Festival closer to the time for updates. Oh, and good luck! |
