But we'd have a pavement (sidewalk) down both sides of the road, a couple of pedestrian crossings, loads of lamposts etc

Usually love your pics Gary, this is not doing anything for me sadly.

Dog and walker too far away, there's so little colour you may as well have converted to monochrome, the foreground is without interest, and its foggy. I think this concept could have worked if you'd been much closer to the street, much further from the dog walker and shot along the street with a telephoto, condensing more distance into less space and making the dog and walker on the street look more out of place (from a metropolitan point of view).

Standing where you stood, shooting with a wide as you did, it doesn't really get the juices flowing.
