Soap Film Experiments

Another attempt at doing something a bit different, these were taken of a washing up liquid and glycerin mixture that was suspended in a wire frame made from pipe cleaners.

Apart from a bit of sharpening and some exposure tweaks in the raw converter these are as shot and have not been processed on the computer.

Some good shots...the first one is my favourite, i like the lightness of it! Always good to some experimentation.

Re: Soap Film Experiments

Well, thanks for your comments guys, I did these earlier in the year and unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the setup. I have just posted an article on my site if anyone want to know more about how I did it. I was pleasantly surprised by the results as it wasn't what I was expecting.

I'm definitely thinking of doing some more, I want to try and get some concentric circles somehow and did have an idea of using a pair of glasses with the lenses removed. If I do I'll get some shots of the rig too.

cheers

Dan

Re: Soap Film Experiments

Fascinating stuff Danpen, I love stuff like this. I've read the explanation on your site but I'm still none the wiser as to how it is done, specifically with regard to the frame you mentioned and the pipecleaners etc.

Any chance you could elaborate further or even better post a pic as I would like to give this a go.

Re: Soap Film Experiments

Looks like I need to beef up the article if it's not clear enough. I'll have a look at it over the next couple of days and let you know when there's more there.

Re: Soap Film Experiments

OK, having nothing better to do on a grey Sunday afternoon
I've put together two brilliant diagrams to illustrate my article and tweaked the text a little, hope it makes more sense now.

I'm glad these shots seem to have generated some interest it's a fun project to do and I look forward to seeing others interpretation of the idea.
