Some Mid Wales shots
Spent the time between Christmas and New Year in some great company in Mid Wales. Here are a couple of shots around where I was staying
Gregynog Walked over the fields to this lovely building owned by the University of Wales. Had to walk back some of the way in the dark but a small price to pay! Classic frontal shot ![]() Slightly more interesting light? ![]() Welshpool Walk - Y Golfa Very windy but well worth it for the views! Looking east towards England ![]() Looking north up the border

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
These are great works.
Are they HDR's or is the foveon sensor that good? |

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
Thanks, Soup! No, not HDRs (keep meaning to try them!) so I guess I'm bound to say it's the Foveon! But I'll have to admit that some of it's in the 'chocolate box' processing!

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
A nice series of shots here Mark, though where you such found decent light I don't know!
The classic Gregynog shot works very well...apart from your? Shadow On The Wall - Mike Oldfield (damn that music thread gets everywhere!) that is. Lovely light in the second shot...a touch too much blank fg for me perhaps? My only crit on the third shot is that you are looking toward Ingerland (shudder!) apart from that....I like it very much! And the last one....nicely composed and taken (a bit thin on the immediate fg for me possibly) but you've captured a gorgeous splash of light here. A really good set of shots Mark (from a Sigma that is )

LOL, Angela! Nicely said!

![]() The Shadow, when not on music thread, was a tree (honest! Sun was to my left!) The 2nd, the FG, I was hoping to get away with the play of light. Seems I didn't! {sigh} 3rd was an example of English Light!

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
Defo your third and fourth shots really do stand out as that Sky looks dark and moody and really giving your photos some thing a bit extra. Sorry not so keen on the first shot of the house as it feels a little flat IMO. But you second shot of the house is much better as the light and the angle work very well.

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
Cheers, Dave! Know what you mean about shot 1 - I much prefer the 2nd (and a number of variations based around that comp which I took)
LOL, Jack! They do do it rather well tho'

Re: Some Mid Wales shots
The one thing that no country in GB can claim is to have a monopoly on 'rolling hills' and gorgeous countryside. Wales has beautiful scenery as does England (Lake District, Peak District, etc) and Scotland (Highlands, Loch Ness, etc).
For me the best of these three shots is the 3rd one, beautiful lighting and detail. I don't think the pathway to the right is needed, i'd crop that out. it just leads the eye down the side of the picture rather than into it. Of the two houses, the second is definitely much better. The first one does very little for me at all. 2nd one is better but how about cropping at least 1 and 1/2 inches off the bottom which is all empty space doing nothing for the picture and giving it a more letterbox style with the stucco and beams of the house to the right balancing the branches of the trees on the left. I had to look very carefully to work out that there is an archway under the road. It just looked like a fuxxy bush or something. I wonder therefore wither the darkness could be lifted just enough to show clear detail as this would give a much stronger portion to the left and centre of the picture. I like the composition and lighting in number 4, lovely shot, just I prefer the interest of No3, probably because of the wonderful sky. Excellent work Mark but sorry, no1 is nice! <g> Cheers, Rob
