Smile Some recent snaps - butterflies and a sunset

Here are some snaps from my recent holiday, which was quite a while ago now but the baby arrival somewhat slowed my usual workflow...

Firstly a couple of butterfly closeups I took at the butterfly farm at Rutland Water. I'm afraid I don't know the names of the species but they sure were pretty!

And I'm a sucker for sunsets with silhouetted treelines, so here's one:

You should be able to see a slightly larger version if you click the image above then click again in my gallery. Thanks for looking!

Very nice, especially like the second one.

Nice shots. I favour the first one just a shame about that bar thing in the background.

Re: Some recent snaps - butterflies and a sunset

I recognise that first butterfly, or rather I have taken pictures of the same type. My better half knows what it is called so I'll ask her when she gets home later

Nice framing slightly of to the left hand side leaving space in front of the butterfly but as KenCo has said the bar in the background does slightly distract. It should be fairly simple to edit that out though if it bothers you much.

The second butterfly shot is very good. I like that one a lot

I also appreciated the sunset and can see why you have shot it with such a wonderful sky but personally the foreground is not defined enough to keep my attention/make the picture work. A leafless tree or a church spire would have been perfect to complete it IMO but mother nature is not known for hanging around for us photographers to get into position for our photos

Thanks for sharing.

Like the second butterfly best as the environment looks more natural, both are good and sharp though.

Lovely colours in the sunset.

cheers

Re: Some recent snaps - butterflies and a sunset

Thanks all. The sunset pic was a lucky accident really as I was trying to demonstrate to my brother how automatic exposure works and realised when I got home that I actually quite liked the shot.

Re: Some recent snaps - butterflies and a sunset

The second butterfly is an Owl Butterfly, named after the 'eye' on its wing. I have some pics of this same type and they are good to get as they happily stay still and let you get close, especially if they are on something juicy!

Not sure of the name of the first one but it's lovely. The blurred bar in BG didn't distract me, I didn't notice it until it was highlighted.

The sky shot is nice and I agree the tree line does set it off rather nicely :o)

Good work,
Cheers,
Rob
