Some snowy Severn shots
Grabbed an opportunity to get out in the snow - and walk to the source of the river Severn
Llyn Clywedog, Mid Wales One of the river Severn's main flood controls but also a reservoir (built in 1965-7 and the target of a bomb which caused some damage). Behind are the snow covered mountains of Plynlimon ![]() Great thing about snow is that it'll "highlight" an otherwise dark foreground ![]() Up on the top above the treeline. The route used to be a boggy nightmare (and add a good hour to the walk) but is now an excellent path (albeit hidden under the snow here!) ![]() A rest and catchup time for those phone calls! ![]() ![]() Marker post for the source of the river Severn - the actual spring appears to be in the foreground of this shot ![]() Returning back down to the car. Altogether a thoroughy enjoyable walk ![]() Hope to find some time next week to upload some more snowy Mid Wales shots

Re: Some snowy Severn shots
Got to agree with gary here, that last shot is something a bit special. It's a lovely contrast between the 'cold' foreground and the promise of a 'warmer' place to be if you carry on walking. Well caught!

Re: Some snowy Severn shots
My vote too.... last one is a cracker. The others are all good as well though, i really enjoyed seeing these. One of them shows a lot of muck on the sensor but other than that these are really great.
I love the Severn Marker Post shot as well, got backgs of texture happening all over it and despite that making it a bit busy it works a treat. You definitely had a great walk there Mark and rewarded for your efforts with some lovely photos.... <whistles> 'It's just a perfect day....' Cheers, Rob |

Re: Some snowy Severn shots
Hi Mark
First and last for me. The first because it is a thoroughly enjoyable, serene scene. The last for the contrast between fg and bg. Well done. skip Last edited by skipper954 : 27-01-2007 at 19:18. |

Great set, but I'll go with the flow and pick the last one as the best.

Re: Some snowy Severn shots
Mark, hope you don't mind me asking but did you have a lens hood on for the first shot? It's just that the left side appeears a bit soft due to the light coming from that side. The right of the shot is lovely and sharp and all the other pictures are pin sharp.
It's still a lovely shot but it is just the left hand lighting that drops it into second place for me ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Some snowy Severn shots
Hey, thanks everyone! Glad you liked them! I will own up and admit that I only stuck the last one in as it was at the end of the afternoon (too much black shadow for me!). I've found the Sigma great for landscapes........... and macroes No lens hood, Rob (waste of time, except as physical protection!). Use my hand to shield the |
