Re: A splash of colour

Nicely caught Fangman, face and beak are very slightly soft because of the shallow depth of field. The camera has focused on the wing which is slightly closer to the camera and the shallow depth of field has meant even something an inch further away is not in perfect focus. To get it all pin sharp, you need to go down to about f3.5 to f4, sometimes even more. Because the background is a reasonable distance away, you will still get it blurred off so that the subject stands out nicely.

Having said that, it's a lovely shot and might be a bit sharper on the original. Compression does tend to soften things off a touch.

WTG good work :o)

Re: A splash of colour

1/200 at f4 (2.8 with 1.4converter) 400asa. I could have dropped to 1/100 but find that this often doesn't freeze movement of the little twitchers when feeding. The reflection of the fill-in flash is sharp in the original.
