Lucas aged seven

Wanted to take photos like Grandpa Pops and was up before his parents and breakfast as he knew birds feed early. He has a go with a little compact Fuji digital i had lent him but although he got pictures - not up to what he was hoping so I set up my gear for him kneeling on the bench and he managed to get this!

Then with the sparrow , chaffinch and long tailed tit I got at the same time we were off up to my den and downloaded to the Mac - shown how I process the pictures and printed him an A4 and made a postcard of his Robin to show them at school.



He managed to see blue and great tits, starlings, gold and greenfinches, blackbirds and doves so had a good introduction.
We had to be quick as they were leaving us later in the morning for home in Yorkshire, leaving an empty feeling house. I started using my father's cameras at about the same age - but in 1948!

That is great, Fang. Perhaps he will be a famous photographer, make oodles of money and support you in your old age! He really did wonderfully with the pics.

I would have never thought of taking pictures through a window. But then I don't usually take pictures of birds either!

he must love going to pops...good luck to your young budding photographer . please let him know that he has some great pics and should be very proud of his efforts

Tell Lucas they're great shots!! His grandparents have just bought my 7 year old his first Canon ... an A430 and grandma's giving him tips as well!!

It can be a mixed blessing as two of my sons were and still are interested and one sells the odd photo and the other uses his camera to illustrate his megazine articles - Pops was the photographer until i had him organised! My equipment could often go missing - not noticed until I needed something for a wedding or the like - most never returned and sometimes I spot an old friend attached to his camera. Reminds me - asked to do a wedding and will need my spare flash back! I think a lot of youngsters are getting hooked on their camera phones and the resolution on these is already better than my first digital. Noticed over here that a lot are getting the bug and entry level DSLRs are the biggest growth area in camera sales.
