Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Very nice composition, looks very much like painting, maybe add some dramatic shadows

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Well out of the recent shots you posted I think this is my favourite, although maybe a little too contrasty but still nice. The comp is good and the effect to me is more a pencil drawing type thing ish.

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Has a pleasant feel to it. If you can forgive the blown highlights it really looks quite nice, almost like a painting.

Wonderfully interesting conversion, and good comp. What effect(s) did you use? Also I wouldn't mind seeing the original...

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Great shot Rob! I think the border makes it look more contrasty than it actually is. I'd like to see it without a border, or maybe a drop shadow mounted on white instead.
Love the composition, except the rather bland sky makes the compo a little unbalanced. Looks like there's detail in the sky, could you bring this out a bit more? |

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Here you go Charlotte, I've tried it with the white BG and I must say I think it works better and reduces the contrasty feel, see what you think.
There is very little detail in the sky, I tried getting more out of it but it was impossible without it looking weird. The one problem I had with my holiday was that on most days the sky was 100% cloud cover so I had to fight for every exposure. Hope you like this version. I have deliberately not touched the picture itself in any way so you can compare the two BGs and see what you like most. Cheers, Rob

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Rob, have you tried adding a simple gradient to the sky? Make it darker in the top right and have it fade to the full white that you currently have just above the bridge and this will then take away the 'bland' sky while increasing the attention on the focal point. Keep it subtle though so as not to ruin the shot

Re: Stone Bridge - mono
Yup, I totally agree Steve, that would be the best thing and I should have done that from the start to be honest. I am going to leave it now as this was really an experiment to see how it came out and the advice is the thing that is most helpful here. I'll take that and move on to the next one.
Of course, if anyone fancies a pimp, go right ahead. ![]() Cheers, Rob |
