Stone Carving

The carving stands 3 inches high. This is my first attempt at a torchlight picture. It is a montage of 3 frames.
1. 45 deg side, 30 deg up
2. frontal, near camera axis, minus 2 stops
3. 45 deg back light, 45 deg high minus 2 stops

I think it would be better for some top light. Comments, good or bad equally welcome.

John.

Re: Stone Carving

Looks pretty good tho' I'd be tempted to make something of the holes (backlit through the holes?) and the reflection. Possibly reduce the light to more of a glow.

Think there's all kinds of possibilities with directional lighting and shadows

Re: Stone Carving

Thank you Markulous. I will try different possibilities including your suggestion to try and make some kind of a glow but goodness knows how I am going to do it! I can't put backlight through the hole because, although you'll never believe it, there is another cavrving of an owl inside this one. The two are one solid piece, so the inner owl must have been carved through the holes.

Re: Stone Carving

Ahhhh! An owl inside an owl! Then I'd venture to suggest that that is the element you need to bring out - the unique/special feature. Sidelighting?
