Re: Storm Chasing

Whats the story with the storm chasing, is that a hobby or just something you were doing in order to catch the shots?

You have done better than I have ever managed but I am suspecting that both of these are pretty severe crops. As Summerleft has mentioned having something else in frame as well to add context always moves lightning shots up to a new level.

Irrespective, you have still easily outdone every attempt I have made at capturing lightning, so well done !!

The story hmm lets see if I can shorten this down a bit. I have been a storm chaser and spotter for the past 21 years. Its a volunteer job and my guys and I are responsible for sounding the warning sirens if the weather is a threat to the community and I also report storm information to the National weather service. The truth of the matter I would be chasing anyway it is such an awesome thing watch. I have not had much luck photographing storms until I bought my 30D in May. Yes I did crop a lot out and here is one of the shots with out much of a crop. I will work on the other and see if I can clean up the noise and post is later.

Thanks for your questions and time

Re: Storm Chasing

Well done, good captures, I prefer the above shot with the trees in shot.

Re: Storm Chasing

No question for me Cpd, the one with the trees works much better. Lightning streaks need a bit of land to make them effective and this is now very effective

Cheers,
Rob
