It has been a while since I last posted here. I thought I would post a photo that I took last weekend. I would love to hear your comments on it.

Re: Stormy

I am looking at work and the monitor here is very dark so I'll need to check again at home and revise my comments then but I like the feel of this picture. I can't see the top of the windmill distinctly from the sky but am hoping that will look fine later. I would certainly crop the left hand side taking out the flag pole and everything else on that side as it just looks a bit messy and distracting from the simple but effective lines of this gorgeous windmill. As the sails are pointing to the right it doesn't matter that the crop would be close on the left and it keeps all the focus where we want it.

Lovely shot and will look at it later to see how it looks a bit brighter.

cheers,
Rob

Re: Stormy

I was thinking "Great shot" until I scrolled down to the red roof. Somehow doesn't seem in keeping with the top half of the shot

Re: Stormy

This does look better now I am at home, the sky does separate itself from the windmill I still think it needs cropping as mentioned before and I think I would lose the heavy black frame OR the drop shadow: having both is a bit overkill, especially when you look down the right and bottom and see a dark grey line of shadow, then some white and then the even darker black line of the frame.

Even though you obviously couldn't change the colour of the roof, you could certainly mute it down a bit in PP. It is very strong here.

However, I really like the lighting and the sky, it really sets it off a treat. Is this in Germany Michelle?

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Stormy

I stayed in Haarlem Hospital as a 'VIP visitor' a few years ago... very nice place and more normal than the madness of Amsterdam, though only 10 minutes away by train ISTR.

I like the photo, Michelle - even the red roof isn't too much for me.

Re: Stormy

I think this is a very nice shot - but like everyone else - the roof does draw the eye.

I've toned it down here and tried Rob's suggestion re cropping.

Re: Stormy

Hmmmm.....not sure if I like the new color of the roof...It is not true to what the actual color was....it was a natural orange color...the color of slate roofs around there and now it is a HOT red! LOL But I do like the crop.

Re: Stormy

I feel the bottom of the picture spoils the top, not because of anything you have done Michelle, just because the workers signs and things are making it all a bit too cluttered. I have had a go at cloning them out, cropping as per previous comment and using a normal drop shadow but not the black frame. See what you think.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Stormy

Lovely dramatic sky to set that windmill against!

Like Rob's removal of the signs but prefer the original crop (and roof colour!) - think it needs the water and the LHS to prevent it looking cramped
