suggestions needed

Hi

Can anyone suggest a quick and simple way to improve the colour detail of a shot in photoshop?

It's only a quick shot, but the red of the car looks much flatter than the actual colour, the other colours seem ok

The shot it's self was a quick snap taken using a 60mm lens, i need to get hold of some filters for it though as the threads are different size to all my other lenses, hence the need for a short term PS cheat

I've linked to it because with a border on the image it's 24pxls too wide

Have you tried doing the levels and upping the saturation a little ?

I had a quick fiddle, seemed to ether make the red go too dark, or the shadow detail looked wrong.

Just upped the saturation by 20 a small tweak on the centre levels bar, will make it a little more red too !

If you want to specifically lift the red, go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and select 'Reds' from the dropdown menu.

This will target the reds without causing oversaturation in the rest of the image.
It's a good method of reducing individual colours too without affecting the other colours.

Ian. that looks about the same as I was getting with it, and you also get the same red cast in the shadow in the lower right.
It also still looks a little flat

I know I could select areas and lift the contrast and saturation, but thats not a quick fix.....yes I'm that lazy :naughty:

Matty, For that particular image i'd left the GHD ceramic straightners at home because the lead wouldn't reach.

Could try layer | new adjustment layer / selective colour / and then boost the red by making sure that "reds" is selected in the drop down box and moving the "blacks" slider towards 100%. Tick the absolute box for a deeper hue rather than postbox red.

The red cast on the floor is caused by the light reflecting off the side of the car.
Have you tried using the magic wand to select the red of the car,
and selecting the neutral grey point on the levels?
By magic wanding the red of the car then making any adjustments in adjustment layers, only the red in the car will be altered.
Using the grey picker in the levels palette, select a neutral grey from the cars wheels, this will fix the colours in the image.
