Re: Sun Flower.........

Nice creative shot there Mike, with lovely vibrant colour + detail in the flower

Minor critique (hope you don't mind): BG of just the sky would've been ideal, as the wall is a bit distracting, especially as it's only partially behind the flower, i.e. flower has a split BG (of sky/wall).

I like the angle of view, which really sets the flower off well, giving it great depth.

Re: Sun Flower.........

I think this is a great shot Mike

For me, the flower is so in your face I think that it dominates the BG sufficiently to overcome the potential distractions of the wall and sky.

My minor crits are the flower being a little too central, the leaves going out of shot on the RHS and the white border needs to be wider to accomodate the drop shadow.

If the flower was 'looking' into the shot by being placed a bit more to the LHS, the leaves would have been in the frame. (I might have been tempted to do a little pruning!)

A very nice shot you must be pleased with.

Wow! Somewhat striking, or what! Like the pushed saturation - works very well

I'm with Dabs - think the boldness of the flower overcomes any potential probs with the BG, which I like just the way it is as it gives nice perspective and balance

No problem with the critique Charlotte, it always good to read someone else's view on your photograph

I would definitely recommend anyone to visit the Shugborough estate, there is so much to see there. Especially as they have now have an exhibition of some of the late Lord Lichfields photographs on show there too (Shugborough was his ancestral home)

Thanks for the comments everyone

Mike
