Sunset at the Heronry
Hi guys,
Another post from me, i know, im getting to be a spammer ![]() Some shots from a local nature reserve at Sunset. This is my first time shooting sunsets. One thing i noticed is that, once again, the colours in Raw format are totally lost when converted "for web". The sunsets were much more orange and vibrant. Any tips for avoiding this loss would be appreciated, as would any tips or critique. A few of these are a little noisy, but after trying noiseware i think i prefer the noise to the smudging NW provided. In some cases it adds a little character to the shots i feel. Some of my favourites: ![]() ![]() ![]() The next one was slightly edited for colour. ![]() A few more at my gallery : http://slacky.smugmug.com/gallery/824834 Looking at the horizon, it seems out in some shots, but its because of the lack of definition due to darkness. As the coast gets further to the left, its actually getting further away too. All shots taken with the Canon 300D, 18-55mm Kit lens and a Tiffen Circular Polariser. Thanks for looking. -Rich (EDIT: Will be posted at OCUK too)

Great shots, Rich.
For me the pick is no 2. The golden reflection on the pond and the silhouette of the swan along with it's reflection are wonderful. To nit pick I would lose quite a bit of sky on this shot. I would crop to just above the dark clouds. Super catch though. Cameron |

The colour desaturation when saving for web is due to the colour space. Try changing the colour mode to Lab colour before you save. Alternatively make the RAW files into TIFF files and then open those TIFF files in Photoshop and work from there.
Nice pics btw

I'm a sucker for sunsets. Cracking shots - I particularly like #1, gives a feeling of solitude. Thanks for showing.

Well, thanks to the tips given to me i have managed to get the colour looking as it does straight off the camera.
Also, the crop does look better with a little less sky. Thanks for the help! What do you think? ![]() Cheers, |

Much much better. I too am a sucker for sunsets and rises.
If I had taken this it would more than likely be on my wall. |

Nice pics Rich. I like the last one (of your original set) especially.
Is the heronry in question in Wakefield by any chance? Looking at your smugmug pictures, you appear to be near(ish) to me. Matt |
