Very nice both of those.

The first stands out for the silhouette agaisnt the lovely purple sky.

The second has a kind-of gritty feel which somehow works well with the shape of the silhouette of the kite-flyer.

That second one looks a bit like one of those old Russian posters. I like it but would clone out the kite strings and handles.

The second one is the best, composition-wise, but is let down by poor post-production. If we were talking about film, I'd say it was very under-exposed.

I like them both but would have prefered to have the bloke in the second picture on the left of the frame and the kit lines leading accross the frame.

Both great shots though.

I was thinking the same thing Steve! I wasn't sure why I would prefer him on the other side though. Where he stands now it just makes me want to see more to the right of him and it's not there.

No - I disagree - by putting him on the 'wrong' side of the image, it sets up a sense of dischord that forces you to re-look at the image over and over.
I often 'break' the rules to achieve the same sort of thing...

Arkady, I have under exposed the 2nd shot a bit to bring out the orange sky more and silohete the bloke out
