Surreal Sky
This was the sky outside my window a few hours ago. Took it originally as an HDR shot, to be combined with another image, then realised how much time it would take without dedicated software, so ended up with this surreal looking, strangely USM effected (I didn't use USM), pic, not the best shot I know, but the sky was cool eh!
![]() Thanks Jack M |

Re: Surreal Sky
Actually Jack, the buildings impress me more so than the sky does
You got real depth there

Re: Surreal Sky
I know what you mean, I will do it and show you (you and I are making quite a team aren't we?), but I can't crop off with my browser window, I've got my resolution set to high, it only takes up about 1/3 of the screen

Re: Surreal Sky
We are, aren't we
![]() I thought something a bit more like this : ![]() Cropped more off the top, increased colour temperature, altered the tint for more magenta, decreased contrast, + finally sharpened @50%. Perhaps a bit OTT re: colour, as I look at it here, but you get the idea of what I visualised. Last edited by Charlotte; 20-03-2007 at 23:06. |

Re: Surreal Sky
LOL it's your image Jack, so you didn't do the crop 'wrong', but I know what you mean
You might not even like that I've taken half the sky away, since that was your initial main subject, as opposed to the buildings which I've placed the main focus on in my version. Anyway, it's good fun sharing different ideas on one image, + makes photo sharing that much more interesting ![]() Er, it's not s'posed to be teracotta, it's s'posed to be a warm glow of the setting sun reflecting off the buildings ... <Charlotte nips off to re-calibrate her monitor >

Re: Surreal Sky
No don't worry! It is like the setting sun, just a lot more orange than the original! And to be honest, it's probably my monitor
Will do what you did to original file soon ! Thanks for the advice!

Re: Surreal Sky
I like the colour there, perhaps just a touch too much as it is becoming pixellated so you might need to run it through the noise filter to smooth it off. The only prob is the sharpening which is too strong, it has put a halo around the edge of the chimneys and rooftop. But the point is made perfectly well so adjusting the original should be able to produce a fine shot without the halo but with the stronger colouration. I like the diagonal line created by the rooftop. I prefer Charlotte's crop down closer to the top right aerial as it gives a diagonal from corner to corner without dividing the picture.
Good work both of you ![]() Cheers, Rob
