All these cloudy misty shots made me go and take another look at some pics I took a couple of years ago (and never got around to fully processing!) up Sugar Loaf.

Weather was cold and foggy and I was hoping for a cloud inversion. Visibility from Cardiff to Abergavenny was about 200m and then (after getting lost down the tiny roads) literally 100m from where I wanted to park, I broke through the cloud just in time to catch the sunrise!

Here's a shot from later in the afternoon (the cloud inversion never broke up and the Severn Valley never did see the sun that day!)

Undoubtedly oversharpened (I never take enough care at that final stage!

) but it ain't burned! Honest, guv! Tho it is very bright, I'll grant you!

Yep it is burnt, but it's mind over matter ... if no-one minds (which we don't) it doesn't matter

I feel the FG is dominating the frame + not keen on the OOF grass, so I tried a closer crop, see what you think:

No probs, md, tho' inversions are not very common, so very difficult to predict when they might happen. You need cold clear nights preceded by cloud so that the cloud gets cold and "falls" into the valley

LOL! I'll kill Malcolm for mentioning burned! It's something I'm pretty sensitive about and therefore ensure I avoid (mostly!

). That cloud is bright and not overly detailed but isn't burned! Really! Pixel peep if you don't believe me!

Thanks for the mod which, tho I like the reduced FG, I'm unsure of the part rock (which was the reason for the shot - have stacks of just hills and mist!)

It is! It is!

Sincerely suggest you look up "burned" and "pixel peep" and then direct me to the burned pixel. You've shown me the histogram which correctly shows that I have high exposure values - it does not show where any clipping has occurred (bit like using a magnifying glass where a microscope is needed - resolution isn't good enough on a standard histogram!)

Here's another shot from the same day - histogram shows no peak at high end yet there are some burned pixels on RHS (but only a few isolated ones!)
