Tall Ship
After revisiting a load of photo's taken last year I came across a few from when a couple of tall ships visited my seaside town. These were taken late in the day as the ship's were leaving so light was a bit of a problem, but I've tried to get as pleasing a shot a possible in PS...
Anyway, hope you like and thank's for looking! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Tall Ship
Good nautical tones in these, Sonsey, and like P-E, I like the first one best. I think the clouds have too much influence in the crop.

Re: Tall Ship
I like them both, Sonsey
If anything, I think the 1st one could have done with a bit more space, at least at the top. Lovely shots! |

Re: Tall Ship
More space at the top of the 1st one? How much space do you want? I think the first one needs less, not more. The problem is, despite this being a tall ship the amount of sky above it is minimising the ship and losing its sense of grandeur. The 2nd one is much better in that respect but there is still not really anything to give it scale. The scale from this one is produced by the viewers own schemata because we all know what size this kind of ship usually is so our brain adds that information to what we are seeing with our eyes here.
Good sharp focusing and I like the band of white cumulus cloud going across the middle as this adds interest rather than a plain sky. It would be great to see one of these on a windy day with full sails billowing and a foamy bow and stern wake to make it really dramatic.... but hey, you can't make that sort of thing happen, you just have to go with what you get and you did really well with it ![]() Cheers, Rob

![]() I have set my view so that I see the last post first - this avoids having to find my way to the last post when there are lots of posts/pages, so there is method in my madness For some reason, this causes me to work up the page, instead of down, when looking at collections of pic's in a single post.Hope that clarifies why I keep referring to a pic other than the one I meant + I will try to remember to be more careful. So, you are quite right, I meant the 2nd shot, which I think is slightly cramped in the frame, especially at the top + less so at the sides.Hope you are not now more confused about what I mean than you were before I tried to explain it ![]()

Re: Tall Ship
Thank's for all the replies folks
I guess with all photography you try and make the best of the situation your in, unfortunately our harbor is rather confined and surrounded by built up areas so often your left with cluttered backgrounds when photographing something close up, it's either that or the wide expanse of the sea. The bit of land in the first shot is the only bit of land that jut's out far enough away that you can't make out the window's on the houses! Quote:

If it helps, Charlotte, you can go directly to the last post (put your bugle away) by clicking on the little box next to the time stamp where the last person who has posted is shown regarless of how you have the post order set. You can do this from the forum view or from the thread headers view. |

Re: Tall Ship
Graham got in before me on that one but I'll add to it as well....
Either click on 'View First Unread' or if you want to get to the last posting quickly (I do sometimes to avoid replying to something and then finding someone else has already said the same thing) just press Ctrl+End to get there instantly. From the bottom, you can of course hit Ctrl+Home to get to the top of the page. That is very useful if you are replying and want to take a quick look at the picture again. You can jump up and down without having to go back to the mouse at all. Hope that helps ![]() Rob |

Re: Tall Ship
Thanks for your help Dab + Rob ... but I must be having a blonde moment, 'cos now I can't find how I changed the view to show last-to-first, to switch it back again so I can try out your advice
Sorry, Sonsey, to veer off topic here ![]() |

Re: Tall Ship
No problem Charlotte, go to your User Control Panel (UserCP link up top).
Now, sclick on Edit Options. Scroll down to Thread Options Here you can adjust how you see the threads. Oldest first, etc. Hope that helps ![]() Cheers, Rob |
