Testing a new lens

Well, I picked up my new Canon EF 70-300mm F4-5.6 IS USM yesterday, and decided to take a trip after getting it. I'm still very uncomfortable using lenses with that "big" focal width, but that's why one trains.

This was the 4th or 5th shot in total with the new lens:

It's cropped, interpolated up and processed so it isn't good. But it isn't bad either if I compare to results I've had with the sigma 70-300. (Exif in file.)

I have my eyes set on some serious optics in the future, but they're still faaar away so this one will have to do for now.

Still trying to get better at macro and on my way home today, I stopped to visit som dragens and possibly save a damsel in distress:

Technically not a macro as it's shot with the 70-300. I can't seem to get close enough with the 60mm so this was just the ticket. None of the dragons cooperated and posed for a good composition, so this had to do.

Think I'm getting better (but still not good enough) at getting the entire subject in focus. Still not good on the face though. On this one I messed it up (what else is new) and clipped the flower it's resting on. Think the shot could have been a bit better had that been left in.

All honest C&C always welcome.

Like 2&3 best. Not being satisfied is a good quality without it we stagnate.
