Well I think I'm finallly getting somewhere. I took some shots on the weekend outside in overcast conditions and practised with the settings until I got the desired exposure. I also took some indoors this morning with just natural light from a french door and they seem to have come up ok too. I haven't touched them except for cropping. Would appreciate any feedback. I know she had a rash on her face in the second set but I'm not worried about that, it was more for exposure than pose etc.

First two could do with a little more light reflected into eyes - second two look good with nice catchlights!

These are a good set and the last one is absolutely delightful. I don't think we are seeing them at their best here as you are rather over-compressing them. They are only 60-70kbs here which is pretty small when they are quite large. I bet the originals look great so I'd get that last one printed and framed, she's gorgeous

Thanks for the replies. A question though......how do you get those all important catchlights without using reflectors or flash? Is it a matter of moving the subject until you get reflection or is there a knack to it? Because her eyes are dark I find I don't get much detail in them. Is detail important or are some eyes just not going to have it?
