Re: Thought Process
great portreit. i like this composition. lot's of details. B&W is a good choice here. and you have managed to show us his "thoughts" in some way. the only thing i'm think could be better is light - it's like little bit too strong or photo by itself is overexposed. but it's still very good photo.

Re: Thought Process
To Be Honest It Was A Quick Snap Shop Today In A Very Dark Cafe On The Great Orme In Llandudno, I Wacked The Iso Right Up, As You Do On The D3, Just As A Tester, The Light Came From The Window, The Eye Didnt Really See The Effect, So More Of An Exercise Really...iso Was 3200

Re: Thought Process
Super portrait, lifethrualens, with great clarity of detail - that closest eye is pin-sharp! Excellent conversion too. Well done
Llandudno ... been on holiday there when I was a kid, lovely place (was back then anyway)

Re: Thought Process
Llandudno? Gogland - it's all dark up there!
![]() For a 'quick snap' this is excellent! You're getting some superb output from the new toy - looks to be worth the mortgage cost! ![]() Quote:
![]() It's an option when you upload to the Gallery to withold comments/scoring. I do this with my pics and link to the shots from the forums (then I need only check the thread for responses and not the image and the thread) |

Re: Thought Process
Very nice shot, only the focus is slightly on the lips not the eyes, but it's a nice conversion, and the detail as ISO 3200 is very good

Re: Thought Process
Actually it's on both. Because of the way the face is angled toward the camera, the nearest eye and the nearest part of the mouth are both within the DoF range, as is the whole side of his face. The farthest eye and the farthest part of the mouth - and that side of his face - are slightly OOF. This DoF setup looks very effective to me in giving the portrait some depth.

I fully understand the relationship between DOF range and things being in focus, but I still think, from what I am looking at, that his near eye is not in as sharp focus as the lips. If you look, his lips come forward from his face, and slightly towards the camera, whereas his eye is slightly closer than that... |
